I love great, accurate, sound from my stereo. I like saxophones to sound like saxophones, cymbals to sound like cymbals, and vocalists to sound like they are in the room with me. But I can't afford to pay the prices asked by the high-end commercial hi-fi manufacturers. I love woodworking, and I've got a degree in electrical engineering. The natural upshot is that I have gotten into Do-It-Yourself audio.

My first foray into DIY audio was a number of years ago. I decided to build some speakers to provide bass in my car. I bought a pair of Lanzar 10" auto sound woofers and built vented boxes based on the manufacturer's supplied T-S parameters. As an afterthought I decided to add some piezo horn tweeters I bought at Radio Shack. All in all the sound was better than the cheap system I had in the living room at the time, and I really enjoyed them in the car. I sold the car a couple of years later and gave the speakers to my brother, he still uses them in his living room.
