Annunciation School Board Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, March 7, 2000

Attendees: Barb Ryan, Mark Phillips, James Serafin, Mike Sobczak, Dave Muench, John Fitzgerald, Otto Wieand, Janet Shanahan, Mike Pepe, Judy Eckam, Sharon Winkler, Elaine Ruszczyk, Glenn Kolpack, Kathy Gullo, Teacher Representative Linda Nareau was present

The meeting began at 7PM with a prayer by Janet Shanahan.

February 2000 minutes were approved with exception by Mike Sobczak and seconded by Mike Pepe. Change – added Barb Ryan and deleted Mary Kay Schaub from Attendees.

Committee Reports:

Development: A thank you letter was sent to families that attended open house. Next year the special registration for regular Kindergarten will take place in the evening. The development committee will continue marketing until the goal of 25 students enrolled for Kindergarten is achieved.

Tuition: Tuition delinquencies are down and 1 family has taken advantage of the Annunciation tuition assistance program.

Computer: More help is needed for maintaining and installing computers. Planned are additional purchases of computers and furniture. We have received $1,200 of software and $600 of library aid from Iroquois. Next year the software aid will be approximately $2,400. A phone line will be run into Barb Ryan’s office to give her access to Email.

Budget: Mike Sobczak presented the board with a summary of receipts and expenses for the year 2000 and 2001. All the revenues are now accounted for. The proposed budget has reduced the parish subsidy for the 2nd year in a row.

Policy and Planning: Jim Serafin expects to have a fund raising policy to present to the board next meeting.

Mission Statement: A notice was put in the bulletin asking for people to join in the formulation of the school mission statement. The committee is in the process of putting a team together.

Education: John Fitzgerald reports that the committee is looking for ways to improve cursive and writing skills. Trial block scheduling will take place April 3rd for the whole week.

Parents can borrow software from the school that they feel will help their child. Discussion ensued as to how we can measure the effectiveness and are people using it.

Unfinished Business: Still awaiting word on the furniture. Janet Shanahan is staying on top of this.

The endowment is in the research phase. It was found that the Diocese has information and help.

New ideas and projects voiced during the board’s creative ideas session:

  1. Focus on enrollment
  2. Look at the rest of the grades to increase enrollment
  3. A more standardized school calendar.
  4. Art clubs, science club, quiz bowl
  5. Student government, student council
  6. Incentives for kid who do all their work (outside of grades) - Coupons for points.

 

 

New Business:

A board member suggested that the curriculum fair be rethought.
