Committee Reports:
Finance:
Since the Council does not have the 2004-2005 budget yet we will await further direction from Father Emil.
Development:
The "ask and you shall receive program" was not a success. Only 17 responses were sent back in.
Education:
- Same goals are presented in September.
- Looking into Jr. achievement with Target, visiting author. Mary Beth Moran and Elaine will present this to Mary Jane.
Buildings and Grounds:
- Mark Phillips did an excellent job outlining items that need to be addressed at the school. The 1st being technology. His personal opinion was that the school rated an okay. We are not where we could be. The computer lab is in good shape. We have 10 new IBM computers. Most classerooms have 2 computers, 1 that is networked and 1 that is not. There is some out dated computers in the classes. There are no overhead projectors to hook up to laptop computers. Mark suggests that goals be put in place to get us on board with better technology. At least 1 projector per floor. Mark rates technology at a 6 (1 being the lowest and 10 perfect).
- There is a lack of printer stations.
- URGENT There is no anti-virus software on any of the computers.
- Mary Beth Morgan suggested that TVs be put in the classrooms as an alternate to having projectors. The TVs can be networked and show same shows in different rooms. Announcements could be seen in each classroom etc.
- There needs to be a technology line item in the budget.
- We need to have network cards installed in the 2nd computers in the classrooms. Cost would be approximately $25.00/computer. Mark to check with Mary Jane on the $5000.00 that was slotted for technology.
- OLD CHURCH -
The basement has some mold from water seeping in the windows. The toys must be removed and tossed. There is cobwebs, decon etc and the toys have been exposed to this.
There is no emergency lighting in the basement.
- SCHOOL -
There is no skid tape on the stairs. The concrete is pitted and it is an accident waiting to happen. Both floor and wall tiles need to be replaced. Rear stairwell needs molding to blend from the removal of the tiles. The kitchen cabinets were removed and nothing was put in their place. Fire doors are in bad shape and should be replaced. The gym floor tiles are breaking. A completely new floor needs to be installed. There is a need to have mats secured to the walls behind the basketball nets that are on the sides of the gym. The front hallway lighting is poor (dark and dingy). Mark Rates the school at a 3 for aesthetics.
- Mark Phillips will provide Mary Jane and Father Emil with a complete evaluation regarding the school in a memo.
- PARKING LOT
There are holes in the lot from the tent stakes need to be filled.
It was discussed that we need to come up will a capital campaign to fund all of the capital improvements that need to be done. Possibly plug into the 100th anniversary.
Mission:
100th Anniversary:
Unfinished Business:
- There were no dance issues.
New Business:
- Jim suggested that the bulletin should have the ˝ page made a full page and it would address issue and programs that the school has to offer. What the children are doing etc. Jim to get with Mary Jane on this.
Open discussion: How to increase enrollment, extra curricular activities, kitchen. The standardized tests need to be published. The scores say a lot about our teachers and their qualifications. Have the teachers hang up their degrees. Catholic teachers choose to be at this school and in a catholic setting.
The next meeting is January 13, 2003 at 6:30pm in Selbert Hall.
Pat Griffin closed the meeting with a prayer.
Meeting closed at 8:35pm.
