The Canadian Army 1942
4th Canadian Armoured Division was the last divisional formation
sent to England to complete 1st Canadian Army. which was raised in
the United Kingdom on 1 April 1942. It moved to the United Kingdom in September
and October 1942. 2nd Army Tank Brigade remained in Canada until
June the following year.
6th Canadian Infantry Division was raised on 18 March 1942 in Esquimalt, BC from the 13th, 14th and 15th Canadian Infantry Brigades raised in 1941. 7th Canadian Infantry Division unit's were raised on 18 March 1942, but the HQ was not formed until 12 May 1942 at Debart, NS. It initially consisted of 16th, 17th, and 18th Canadian Infantry Brigades. 8th Canadian Infantry Division unit's were also raised on 18 March 1942 and the HQ was raised on 12 May 1942 at Prince George, BC. In July 1942, these three divisions were reorganized so that 6th Canadian Infantry Division consisted of 13th, 18th and 19th Infantry Brigades; 7th Canadian Infantry Divison consisted of 15th, 17th and 20th Canadian Infantry Brigades; and 8th Canadian Infantry Division consisted of 14th and 16th Canadian Infantry Brigades. 21st Canadian Infantry Brigade would remain at Valcartier, PQ as a strategic reserve.
